It's November. Already?? I know, already.
Today is absolutely gorgeous here in South Texas. A cool front has made it's way through. The Halloween party we hosted last night was a 'smash' and a wonderfully happy way to end October with great friends, family, and wonderful children.
With the time change, we are all well rested and yet have the entire day ahead of us to do, really, whatever we feel like. Which is, enjoying this glorious day.
November 1st also breaches us into the Holidays. In a… Continue
Our children attend a small school. It is a small private school, though considering the expense of privates schools in the area, the state and the country -- this one is better than reasonable. And, my children have received the one-on-one small classroom education to start them off ahead of the race and give them a well founded base in education.
That being said... I've know the second - third grade teacher for a couple of years now. I've know the children she teaches because I volunteer and… Continue
I realize that Grow Together was a sprout off of Root & Sprout E-zine, which was a wonderful resource for all of us to read and share about parenting, as well as a wonderful venue to get paid occasionally for sharing the facts and statistics on things that we found important to make knowledge to other parents.
But, a good value of members of Grow Together never wrote an article. Maybe posted and idea for an article. Probably read some or most of the articles at Root & Sprout...and enjoy… Continue

I myself am quite guilty of not visiting here as often as I used to; not always daily, but for sure a couple time a week. Lately, I've found myself missing this place. So, I've been popping back in.
But, I'm wondering where all our funny stories are, our quirky parenting moments, and even our sharing of frustration when we run into a parenting wall.
School is back in session and so am I. Which might be what brought me back here since summer was so full in so many other venues. This past summer… Continue

If you think about it a farmer doesn’t ‘grow’ anything. The farmer can’t ‘make’ a seed germinate and mature nor make a tree bear fruit. What the farmer can do however is to provide a potent atmosphere for growth and maturity.
The farmer prepares the soil through tilling and fertilizing, e… Continue

There is a great song by Brad Paisley called 'Welcome To The Future' and during the song children profess what they want to be when they grow up.
I love how children dream! Their future is wide open, there is no judgment, no l… Continue

WHY SHOULD PARENTS be involved? Are we hovering and stealing our children's independence? Or, are we guiding them into adulthood as they learn their way to making the right life decisions?
It's my day to bring the snack for story time for my daughter’s kindergarten class. I’ve also chosen two new and brightly illustrated books to read to the class. As I open the door and walk into the class the children stop what they are doing and rush to my side. They are so excited to see me… Continue
Remember me? Grow Together creator and site administrator? Does the name "Lis Garrett" ring a bell at all?
No? Well, I can't say that I blame you. It's been way too long.

What can I say other than I desperately needed the break? After making the decision to cease publication on Root & Sprout, I went through all the emotions. First I was sad, and I felt incredibly guilty for "leaving" everyone. Then I was an… Continue
Do you ever give your kids compliments or praise or any kind of positive reinforcement and it just doesn't seem like they are responding to it. You find yourself falling back into old habits of unrealistic punishments and frustrated boughts of negative words and actions. You say to yourself, "I tried to be a nice guy but they just don't act appropriately. They still act out and don't do what I've asked them to do." I've worked with so many parents who say, " When I don't yell and get after them,… Continue

Sorry it took me so long to announce the winner to my $50 gift card giveaway. Since this was a work project, I worked on it during working hours, but I needed to remember to have my lovely assistant to the drawing when she was at home and not on Wii! We got it done, though. We had a lot of entries but can only have one winner.
