giving kids the roots to help them sprout

Jacob, who has Sensory Processing Disorder, does not approach new food (or food of any kind) with particular enthusiasm. He is strictly a PBJ toast/sandwich and cereal sort of guy.

So imagine my surprise when he voluntarily ate a granola bar and tried a swig of a carbonated beverage. The granola bar was chocolate covered, but even that had never swayed him in the past. He loved it!

The carbonation . . . not so much! He approached it very cautiously and took tiny sips.

But hooray for small improvements!

Awesome! My DS also has some SPD, but on the other end of the spectrum (sensory seeking). He'll eat jalapenos.

Boy can I relate! None of my girls like carbonated beverages. Peanut will not eat PB&J! I wish she would. Way to go, Jacob. It's always wonderful when you can add another item to their menu!

Dare I even mention he ate SIX granola bars?!

Bridget was napping, and I told Hannah and Jacob to play together so I could get a little work done. But that's what I get for leaving them unsupervised for a half hour! I was certain he was going to be sick. I really was torn between feeling upset that he ate so many or proud of him for trying something new. He said to me, "But they were just so delicious!"

I guess so!

Hurray for Jacob!! You know I understand what a HUGE deal this is! I hope he didn't end up sick later.

I don't know how, but somehow he managed to keep them all down. LOL!
