Grow Together

giving kids the roots to help them sprout

Over at Root & Sprout today, we are hosting a new giveaway. It is for both a scented candle diffuser and soy candle from Glade's Fragrance Collection.

What I want to know is, are there certain scents that make you think of particular things, places or people?

While candle scents are designed to do just that, the scents that actually trigger 'a memory' for me are the floral scents like lavender and lilies. Any time I catch even a faint sniff of flowery scents it makes me think of my Grandmother. Everything in her house smelled flowery, including her.

Speaking of grandmothers, mine always had a bottle of Flex shampoo in her bathroom. I love the smell of Flex, and whenever I use it, I think of summers spent with my grandparents. :-)

Candles with a cinnamon scent remind me of celebrating Christmas. My grandmother made Cinnamon rolls and my mother did the same.
I carried on the holiday tradition by baking rolls and cinnaomon rolls during the holidays. I'm reminded of bringing them to friends and neighbors, as a way of saying "Thanks for being part of our lives" If I was lucky, I really had enough for neighbors. My boys gobbled them up like potato chips.
Fun question. Thanks.

Cinnamon and nutmeg make me think of Thanksgiving and Christmas--it's the pies! Coconut totally transports me to the beach and reminds me of my honeymoon--pina coladas!

Nope. I like several scents, but I don't think any of them reall y remind me of people, places or things.

The scent of lilacs remind me of my Mom, it was her favorite flower. When I was a child I would ask anyone who had a tree in their yard if I could pick some for her. I have two lilac trees in my yard. This year the weather cooperated for the first time in a long while and I filled every room in the house, yes even the bathroom. Their fragrance brought her spirit to life for me on Mother's Day. I miss you mommy.

Of course!

For me it's mostly the obvious. Like flowers scents make me think of a hot place (like Hawaii) even though I've never been there. Woody scents make me think of the woods, stuff like that. Lilacs make me think of my mom though, because it's her fav scent and she used to grow it.

Of course! But mostly they would be perfume or men's cologne that remind me of a certain time/place in my life. For example, Estee Lauder's Youth Dew was my grandmother's fragrance. Whenever I smell it I am reminded of her. Lagerfeld (men's cologne) reminds me of an old boyfriend, etc.
When it comes to other scents, I LOVE the smell of Lather's candle 'Milk and Honey'. It is calming and spa like ~ brings a smile to my face.

Freshly cut grass and the smell of gasoline from a lawn mower make me think of my grandfather. When I was a little girl, I would sit on his lap as he cut his lawn. He's been gone for 14 years, but every time I smell a lawn that's just been mowed, I think of him.

there is a scent -- It might be white shoulders, but there is another one too. Something about old[er] ladies dressed and wearing perfume always remind me of my Gramm on my Mom's side.

As far as candles, the smell of Christmas for sure. Anything that smells like cinnamon or apple remind me of pie. Well, except for the McIntosh Apple by Glade -- it just made me want to bite into a crispy, juicy apple!!!

Coppertone sunscreen always makes me think of being at the beach with my siblings when we were kids. The smell of vinegar jolts me back to Easter Egg decorating. Rose scented lotion reminds me of my mom. I used to sneak in her room and lather up so that I could be just like her.
