Grow Together

giving kids the roots to help them sprout

I can hardly believe it, but it's snowing here in Central Upstate New York. We are projected to get 3-6 inches tonight, but I'm really hoping not. I've yet to buy new boots and snow pants for my kids. I know this is short-lived (thank goodness!). It's supposed to be 60 degrees by Halloween.

The last time I remember it snowing in October, in Ithaca, was when I brought Jacob home from the hospital - 10-27-01. Nothing makes a new mother feel anxious right out of the gate like her husband trying to navigate an icy road with a new baby in the back seat!

What's the weather like where you are?

It's been colder here but right now it's sunny and 60 degrees. It's supposed to warm back up later this week and be in the 70s by Halloween. It was snowing in Cedar Rapids IA yesterday but all we got was cold air down here in KC, thank goodness. We did have to go out and buy a winter coat for Diva, though because she didn't have one yet. Peanut is still wearing the same one from last year and MA, well, she's a pre-teen. I think she'd still wear shorts if I let her!

Cold and windy, but no snow... yet.

I noticed today that this was the first afternoon that it was as cold in the afternoon as in the morning... :(

On cold days, when the big kids are at school and Bridget is taking a nap, I'll take a hot shower just to warm up. There's just something physical and psychological that happens to me this time of year - like I get a chill I can't get rid of no matter how many sweaters and pairs of socks I'm wearing. I definitely need sunshine and warm weather to function properly! I think I need to go visit April!

Here is the SUNSHINE you all are searching for, straight from Pasadena CA, where it is a balmy 98 degrees!! Feels more like Summer than Fall. However tonight we will plunge to a chilly 58 degrees.
LOL Wish I could bottle this up and send you each some.

Crisp, cold, and fully autumn. Around 40 degrees and sunny, hailing, raining - all within an hour. The only thing more beautiful than the golden leaves lit against a bright blue sky is when the weather turns, the sky gets dark, and the leaves look more vibrant than ever. I love this time of year. Yes, it's chilly, but I always feel like it's the last flash of summer - the yellows and oranges are just rearranged! And my boys are like little kids again - jumping in the leaves and all helping out with the raking.

Build a fire, make some hot cocoa, and enjoy! My kids would be in heaven - and bootless!

Right now it is beautiful and 64. But I should also start by it is fall in the mountains so that means when I ride my bike to work at 8am it is about 15 and then eventally (around now) it warms up to 64 to start over again! Yes we see a swing of over 50 each day!

We did receive a bit of snow around October 15th. We always get a snowstorm close to my birthday. Joe when mountain biking last weekend and he rode through dry, mud and snow!

We're experiencing a cold spell here in PA...did you see the awful mess at the World Series game last night in Philly? That's pretty much what we're dealing with. But it's supposed to "warm up" to 60 for Halloween.

Cold and windy - they canceled the Halloween Parade for tonight. :( And they are saying we might get flurries tomorrow. Luckily I had put off coat shopping until last Friday, so I ended up just going for the winter coat with snow pants. I, however, need some new work pants - the office where I sit now is way too cold for skirts!

I'm in southern Florida, and it's a refreshing 62 degrees! I don't think it reached 70 today. Such a nice change from our usual oppressive humidity and 90-degree days.

It is getting cooler in Illinois after an unusually warm October. Had a bit of freezing sleet last night, along with a hard freeze in the 20's.
